MERIDEN - Walter P. Zaborowski, 87, beloved husband of the late Sophie (Kardas) Zaborowski, died on Friday, March 22, 2013, at his home.

Born on Dec. 13, 1925, he was the son of the late Stanley and Stefania Zaborowski. Walter was a lifelong resident of Meriden, a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1944, and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church where he was an usher at Sunday Mass for many years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a PFC, Heavy Machine Gunner in Company M, 66th Regiment, 71st Infantry Division and fought in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Walter was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal of Germany and the Victory Medal. He was employed as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service from where he retired after many years of service. Walter was a member of the PLAV 189 and was a former Post Commander for which he was duly recognized by the Mayor of Meriden. Also he was a member of the Polish National Alliance. Upon his retirement he assisted in service projects for hospitalized veterans. Walter was an avid stamp and coin collector. A loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

Mr. Zaborowski is survived by his sons, Walter P. Zaborowski, Jr. and his wife, Elaine, of Watertown and Joseph Zaborowski, of Meriden; a sister, Mary Zaborowski, of Meriden; four grandchildren, Mark, Robert, Thomas and Mary Zaborowski; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Alfred Zaborowski.

Family and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, March 27, at 11:30 a.m. directly at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the State Veterans' Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
