Linford M. Bracken, 87, passed away May 3, 2014 in St. George, Utah. He was born August 4, 1926 in St. George, Utah to Marcellus and Ellen Matilda "Nellie" Bowler Bracken. He married Estella Leavitt December 26, 1943 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dad was raised in Gunlock and on the Bigelow Ranch and never wanted to be further away than it took to get back in time for supper. He always raised a large garden and gave most of it away. Dad loved to hunt and spend time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Dad is survived by his four children: Michael Lynn (Rolayne) Bracken, of Gunlock, Ricky Allen (Debra) Bracken of Bigelow Ranch, Nadine (Jim) Heaton of Gunlock, Kirk M. (Tammy) Bracken, of Enterprise; brother, Lavar (Leah) Bracken of Santa Clara; sister, Marva Ray of St. George; sister-in-law Elsie Bracken, Gabbs, Nevada; twenty grandchildren; forty-nine great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. I don't have his picture to post,
he only lives in the shadows of my mind.
I guess I've known him for 35 years or so,
seems like he was just always there.
I got word this morning that he died on Saturday,
His son Jim called me with the news.
He's standing there now, almost in the sun, with his old straw hat tipped back just a little.
The leaves on the big cottonwood are shimmering in the breeze,
casting dancing shadows on his face.
He's grinnin', he was always grinning!
and he's squinting at me through those glasses and in that high pitched voice asks me how've I been!
Bow-legged and lean as a fence post. I don't know how he kept his jeans up.
He knew about a horse and he knew about a garden.
He knew how to work and I knew I loved him.
Linford Bracken is his name. Nadine is his daughter, and Jim loves them both.
So long Grandpa, I'll see you on the other side!
