Alma Lewis Thomas

Alma (Al) Lewis Thomas, age 91, passed away March 14, 2014, in Ivins, Utah at the Southern Utah Veterans Home. He was born May 11, 1922, in Thistle, Utah to Lorenzo Lewis and Effie Lorena Pace Thomas.
Alma was raised and educated in South Gate, California. After graduating High School, Alma joined the Merchant Marines. He served until the end of World War II. Just before the war ended, in May of 1945, in the St. George LDS Temple, he married Julia Wilson of Hurricane, Utah.
The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Alma went to work for the Jordan School District at night while maintaining day jobs as well. In 1962, they moved to Colorado City, Arizona, while Alma continued working in Salt Lake City. In 1998 Alma retired and came home to be with his family.
Alma loved to tell stories and play jokes. He never complained in spite of numerous disabilities, and loved to read and study, especially church history. Alma was hardworking and dedicated to his family and will be deeply missed.
Surviving family include his children, Lorie, Marilyn, Pamela and Martha as well as numerous grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Julia and son, Kenneth.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT. There will be a viewing Sunday from 11:00 am until time of services. Interment will take place in the Isaac Carling Memorial Park.
