Melvin Burgener
Ivins, Utah
Melvin "Mel" Fay Burgener, 88, of Ivins, passed away January 24, 2013 in St. George. He was born November 13, 1924, in Driggs, Idaho to Clara Durtschi and John Burgener. He was the eleventh child with five brothers and five sisters. He married Norma Jean Prestwich November18, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Mel and Norma had four children: Ronald, Douglas, Faye and Jeananne. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mel served in the Army in WWII in General McArthur's headquarters. Mel enjoyed many pastimes: fishing, hunting, reading, singing, acting, baseball, family history work, painting landscapes, touring national and state parks, and being with his family. He has been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life, and especially loved serving in the temple in his later years.
Mel married Patricia Lee Lazenby September 4, 1999 in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. They have made their home in Ivins.
He is survived by wife, Patricia, Ivins; children: Ronald (Linda) Burgener, Faye (Lerl) Fackrell, Jeananne (Steve) Larsen; daughter-in-law, Terrie Trunzo; 15 grandchildren and46 great-grandchildren; sister, Lily Mcquivey.
Preceded in death by parents; son, Douglas.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Red Cliffs 8th Ward Chapel, 625 E. Center, Ivins, where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Ivins Cemetery with military rites. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. I was able to see Grandpa one last time for his 88th Birthday. And my 4 kids got to meet him and take a 4 generation photo. I will not be able to make the trip for his funeral.
