Maxine Brown
St. George
Maxine Stewart Brown age 92, returned to her heavenly home September 30, 2013. Maxine passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side. She was born to Paul Stewart and Ethel Higbee in Alamo, Nevada February 4, 1921. She moved to Seattle when she was 15 years old. She attended Lincoln High School where she met her future husband, Shirl Brown. They were married June 8, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. Maxine worked as a young wife while her husband attended Dental school at the University of Washington. Together they raised a family of 5 children. Maxine was a talented homemaker, an excellent seamstress, an outstanding cook and a loving nurturing mother. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent many hours of service in the Relief Society Organization, as a temple worker and enjoyed working in the Young Women's organization. Maxine and Shirl served as name extraction/indexing workers for over 25 years. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. She and her husband retired and moved to St George, UT in 1983. Her hobbies included tennis, bowling and playing table games with her grandchildren. She won individual and team Gold medals bowling in the Huntsman World Senior games competition in St George. She was also active in the Daughters of UT Pioneers Organization. Maxine was the beloved matriarch of a numerous posterity. She is survived by her husband of 71 years Shirl, four daughters and one son, Barbara Palmer (Dennis), Shirl Brown Jr (Rose), Susan Taylor (Paul), Nancy Bardsley, and Chelta Brown (Aaron). Maxine has six living siblings, Pauline Simpson, Ethel Seletos (Tom), Leo Stewart (Lorrie), Donna Chapel, Edward Stewart (Catherine), and Yvonne Mason (Tim). Shirl and Maxine have 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Bloomington 7th Ward Chapel, 3381 Mulberry Dr, St George, UT 84790.
