Bonnie Rae Matthews Ball
Bonnie Rae Matthews Ball, 83, passed away on March 20, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born on November 18, 1930 in Los Angeles, California. Bonnie Rae grew up in Rigby, Idaho with her parents Harold and Clista Hammer Matthews. When her father passed away, she moved with her mother to Idaho Falls. She started high school and met Richard James Ball, the love of her life. While Richard was on an LDS mission in Germany, she attended the University of Idaho, joined the Delta Gamma Sorority and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Her mother married Walter Edward Sims and Walt became a significant force for good in her life. She found herself traveling and living in Arabia, Africa, and Europe with her parents. On May 7, 1954 she and Richard married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this May.
Bonnie and Richard lived in Provo, Utah while Richard finished his schooling and Bonnie taught home economics at Provo High School. With their children, Deborah and Bradford James, they settled in Tustin, CA near Richard's parents, Leonard Garfield and Sybil Frongner Ball. Bonnie loved the warmth of Southern California, caring for her yard, and serving as Primary President and on the Stake Primary Board. The Ball family has resided in Bloomington, Utah since 1972.
Bonnie was a talented homemaker and accomplished seamstress. Her life was her home and her family, which she loved with all her heart: husband ,Richard; daughter, Debbie (Bill) Roberts; son, Brad (Tracy) Ball; grandchildren: Ryan (Ashly) Roberts, Megan (Nathan) Croft, Brita (Golden) Harper, Mason Ball, Emma (Carson) Schaub; and great-grandchildren: Oliver, Elsie and Finnian Croft and Aydan Roberts.The family would like to thank Dr. Rignell, who Bonnie had put her complete trust in for her healthcare and Gwen, who Bonnie enjoyed sharing family tales with every Friday morning while she had her hair done.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery.
