Eva Jorgensen Cox, age 94, passed away June 25, 2013 at home with her son, Sherman, at her side. She was born April 7, 1919 in Orderville, Ut to Joseph Ira and Eleanor Angeline Hoyt Jorgensen. During her youth, her time was divided between Orderville and the ranch on Mineral. She loved the ranch, it's wild flowers, rocks, and her special giant cedar tree where she climbed when she was sad or lonely.
Eva married Neldon W. Cox Sept.16, 1941 for time and all eternity in the St. George temple. They spent the first 2 years in California. Eva experienced the chaos of Pearl Harbor, the black outs, and rationing of food and gas that came with World War II
. Moving back to the Valley, Eva and Neldon lived with Neldon's parents for a time. Their first son, Neldon Verdawn, died when only 2 days old. Later on they were blessed with two daughters, Karen & OraMay. Eva & Neldon built their own little home, doing all the work together, including making their own cinder blocks. It was completed in time for another son. Sherman came home to the new house and completed their family. Neldon passed away in Oct. of 1961, leaving Eva to raise three children by herself.
Eva was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings in Sunday school and primary. She served as Relief Society President and other positions within that organization.
Eva was a marvelous story teller, entertaining her children at night with her memories of the ranch. She was an excellent cook and her pastries were even sold in a bakery. She cooked and cleaned for others to support her family. At one time two boys fought over who could make the best honey candy. One boy's grandma Cox or the others Aunt Eva. They both 'won' as she was the grandma Cox and the Aunt Eva all in one.
Above all, Eva loved her family. She taught them to work hard by her own example. She loved her grandchildren & great grandchildren, who loving called her Grandma Grape. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Both Eva & Neldon came from very large families and Eva at times said "she hadn't contributed much to this ole world" but she was the matriarch to a family totaling 104.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Ira & Eleanor Angeline Jorgensen; her eternal companion Neldon W. Cox; a son Neldon Verdawn; a daughter Karen Crosby; and all of her 10 siblings Ora Jorgensen, Arvilla Heaton, Joseph, Isreal, Sylvia Chamberlain, Heber, Clarissa Orton, Vardaman (Sandy), Vern, and Larraine Ramsey.
She is survived by her daughter OraMay (Chuck) Mellor; her son Sherman W. (Lolly) Cox; 17 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
