Peter Albert Nelson, age 89, passed away on May 23, 2013. He was born on February 20, 1924 in Cedar City, Utah to George Timmons and Olivia Ann Stevenson Nelson. In October of 1942 he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USCG Cutter Roger B. Taney during WWII as a Carpenters Mate. He returned home October 18, 1945, where he soon met Betty Colleen Frazer. They married on April 22, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple in 1964.

Peter worked at US Steel for three years, and then enlisted in the National Guard, where he was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington, then onto the Korean War for 13 months as a Security Sargent under General Gilmore. He also served under Colonel Frank Dally of Cedar City and Major Pat Fenton of Cedar City. Returned home and continued at US Steel until he retired.

Peter is survived by his daughter Deborah Batty (Travis) of Cedar City, UT. His three grandchildren; Corby Olsen (Staci) of Cedar City, UT., Chase Olsen (Amy) of St. George, UT., and Amanda McCoy (Braxton) of West Jordan, UT. Along with seven great grandchildren; Shyrissa Colleen Olsen, Shellyn Debi Olsen, Corby Nelson Olsen, Wade Matthew Olsen, Devin Tanner (Shirley), Gaige Davis and Aiden McCoy. And two great, great grandchildren, Karson Tanner and Tyson Tanner.

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Olivia Nelson, his wife Betty Colleen, his son Frazer T. Nelson, and five siblings; Yorke Nelson (Barbara), Granville Nelson (Ina Jean), Olive Tyler (J. Rue), Runa Wood (Bill) and Agnes M Nelson.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 28 2013 at 10:00 am at the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com
