Rex Wood(1943 - 2014)

Rex B. Wood

Salt Lake City

Rex Bryner Wood, "Dear Old Dad", Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, friend, proud Viet Nam Vet, Harley rider, American Patriot, member of the NRA, and self-proclaimed "Hippy Cowboy" passed away April 11, 2014, following complications from a lung transplant. He was born to the late Bryner & Phyllis Wood, October 8th, 1943 in Salt Lake City, grew up in Beryl, Utah, and lived in Midvale, Utah at the time of his death. Graduated from Cedar High School in 1961, attended College of Southern Utah.

Rex is survived by: Daughter Rebecca "Boo" Moss, Grandson Robert Hall, Siblings: Dianne, Kelly (Robin) and Wendy. Step children Scott, Janine, Heather, David, many step grandchildren, nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Brother Danny and his beloved Rottweiler's Balder, Brutus, and Baron.

Rex had a great smile, laugh and 'enjoy life' attitude. He was always ready to share a story, or meet for a meal-as long as he could take home a doggie bag to his best friend. His remote control flipped between NASCAR and most any program on the History channel that had to do with antiques, restoration or vintage cars. He enjoyed many hobbies, including collectables, cars - especially his 1965 GTO, antiques, leather making, jewelry, bead work, his Rottweiler's and riding his Harley. He was a talented artist, designer, mechanic and all around "fix it" guy. But most of all, Rex was the best Dad, Grandpa, favorite Uncle, best Brother and friend any one could have.

Rex had worked in several different jobs during his life, from line man and draftsman, to bartender. He was a Certified Welding Inspector and had retired, most recently working for PSI.

Rex received a lung transplant on September 27, 2013 - he came out of the surgery and initial recovery with flying colors. The last few months were challenging as he battled infection, and organ rejection. He had no regrets in pursuing this path, and fought to the very end, doing everything the doctors asked of him. He touched many lives on his journey, and will not be forgotten for his courage and tenacity.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and staff at the University of Utah Hospital, for fighting alongside Rex every step of the way, with special thanks to Dr. Barbara Cahill, and Dr. Sanjeev Ramen and Dr. Carla Ball. In addition, thank you to the donor and their family, for their selfless and generous gift.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rex B. Wood Donation Fund, at the nearest Zion's Bank to help with medical expenses.
