Alan David Clayburn

Washington

Alan David Clayburn, age 67, passed away July 31, 2014 at his home. He was born May 10, 1947 in Heber City, Utah to Theron David and Cora Henline Clayburn. Alan was the oldest of 6 children and grew up in Charleston, just outside of Heber.

Alan attended high school in Heber, then attended Dixie State College on a football scholarship. He graduated with an Associate's degree in 1967, and went on to graduate from BYU in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation.

Alan has always been a very hard worker. He cleaned the Charleston church with his father, milked a herd of cows before and after school, and hauled hay in the summer while attending high school. He worked as a groundskeeper at Dixie College (University), planting many of the trees that are still there. While attending BYU, he worked as a hard rock miner in Park City.

After graduation from BYU, Alan attended Police Academy, worked for the Summit County Sheriff Department, then became a Park Superintendent for the State of Utah. He managed Rockport, Snow Canyon, Utah Lake and Deer Creek State Parks during the 21 years before his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement from the State, Al worked in Loss Prevention for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Hurricane. He retired from Wal-Mart in April of 2012.

Alan loved life and had a gift for making long lasting friendships. He made friends everywhere throughout the state and cherished the friends that he had. He loved his family very much, loved being with them and did all he could to take care of them. He was very generous and kind to those around him, often quietly helping those in need.

While managing Snow Canyon State Park, Alan met his wife of 37 years, Malynne Blake, and married her in the St. George Temple, August 18, 1977. Alan is survived by his wife, Malynne, his four children: Kimberli (Todd) Wilde, Carl (Paige) Clayburn, Colt Clayburn and Cragun Clayburn; his brothers Paul (Virginia) and Scott Clayburn, and his sisters Pam McDonald and Jane Larsen. Alan has eight grandchildren: Jessica (Tyler) Ellett, Matthew, Amberli, Savannah and Makenna Wilde; Sadie (Scott) Adams, Courtney and Cody Clayburn. He also has 2 great-grandchildren, Mason and Avery Adams. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Calista, his sister, Linda, and both parents.
