Another saint has gone home. On October 19, 2013 God called home his servant Charles E. Kirby, age 77, of St. George, Utah formerly of Page, Arizona, after a long battle with cancer. His wife and family were by his bedside. He is survived by his wife of 6 ½ years, Reba S. Jones.
Kirby, as he loved to be called, was born in Little River, Kansas, on December 17, 1936 to Mary Bell Goodrick and Edgil Kirby. He is survived by 1 sister, Virginia (Russell) Fisher of St. Louis, Missouri, and 2 brothers, Marrion (Diana) Kirby of California and Robert of Vero Beach, Florida, children; Keith (Julie) Kirby of Salina, Kansas and Mary Sheffield of Salina, Kansas. He was a beloved grandfather of 4 granddaughters, Jesica, Trillian, Tara, and Lisa, and great grandfather of Aimslie and Trinity.
Kirby served in the USAF for 20 years, 22 days. He was stationed in Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Moroco, Alaska, and Vietnam. After retirement he moved to Page, Arizona where he and his first wife Martha lived for 33 years. He worked various jobs including as a security officer for SRP, and at Aramark (Wahweap) and the National Park Service.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a devoted member of the Page 5th Ward and Morningside 7th Ward in St. George. He loved to go to the temple and served many callings in his wards and the temple.
Funeral arrangements will include a military funeral and memorial in Salina, Kansas where his ashes will lay beside his loving wife Martha.
