Ellen T Jenson
Our Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, Ellen Rae Talancon Jenson passed away in her home on April 28, 2013. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Ellen was born on March 23, 1936 in Milford Utah to Antonio and Kate Bridges Talancon.
She was raised with her brothers Jack and Ralph and sister's Ruth, Thelma and Dorothy. Her father was a railroad worker, they lived in Milford, Lund, Modena and Cedar City. Ellen was taught to work hard as a young girl. Her brother Ralph had disabilities as a child and Ellen was often left in charge of him because she could help him with his seizure problems. Ellen worked with her mother in restaurants when she was young.
Ellen married Ernest Grayson and they had Marlene and Wayne, later divorced. She then returned to Cedar City and met and married David H Jenson. They later had a daughter Kathy. Ellen helped David with his farming and sheep operation. She worked right by his side with lambing, trailing sheep, preparing meals, and moving camp, often living in the sheep camp along with the children. Many a Christmas dinner was spent at the herd, Ellen would prepare the meal early and we would eat while trailing the sheep along the Antelope Road on the way to Nevada.
Ellen was the first Meter-maid for the Cedar City Police department. She was also the women's jail matron. Later she worked for the Juvenile Court and Farm Bureau Insurance. After she raised Kerry and Garth, she worked for the Iron County Youth Center. She enjoyed working with the kids at the Youth Center.
In 1980, after her children were raised, her sister in law Jeanette was tragically killed in a car accident and Ellen and David took their nephews Kerry and Garth into their home. They are the same ages as the grandchildren and she was Grandma Jenson to them also. Ellen made sure that all the grandkids were close to one another. She made sure that all the Grandkids made it to swimming lessons and ball games, She would take them all to Brian head each winter to stay in a cabin and learn to ski. She didn't ski but would have hot chocolate and hot chili ready when they were cold and tired. She supported Kerry and Garth in scouts, baseball, rodeo and all of their activities. Every year the Jenson's had a family reunion at Mammoth Creek and Ellen made sure to have fun things for all the family children to do from crafts to treasure hunts, to the biggest fish prizes. She was a wonderful Grandma.
Ellen has bravely fought cancer for the past 17 months, when we checked on her she would be more interested in us and our families than herself and never complained. We would like to thank Moms very best friend, Aurilia Dee Adair, Maree, Lynette and their staff from Iron County Home health, and Ethan and Hannah from Alliance Hospice for their wonderful care of our Mother.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Lemon and Kathy Lamoreaux (Dean), and her son Wayne Jenson (Krysta). Her nephews Kerry and Garth Jenson (Sarita), her sister Thelma Sinnen , her grandchildren, Kimberly Sevy-Hiliare (Kevin), Alesha Sevy Kelley (Lee), Aaron Sevy (Crystal), Kelee Lamoreaux Hansen (Lyle), Dirk Lamoreaux, Janelle Lamoreaux Adams (Josh) and Marisha Jenson, Destiny, Mylie, Layne and Samantha Jenson; Great Grandchildren Sienna, Chloe, Lee and Halee.
