St. George
Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Leah Cook Lamoreaux Brindley, 94 passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, in Sterling Court, St. George, Utah from causes due to incidents of age.
She was born August 2, 1918 in Vernal, Utah to Mark and Amanda Remington Cook, the second of two children. She is survived by her two daughters: Kathryn Lamoreaux Bourke and Miriam Lamoreaux Cochran; 20 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her four husbands; her son, George Lamoreaux; and her daughter, Vivian Lamoreaux Gamble.
Leah's life was a whirlwind of interest and activities. First and foremost, she was a matriarch of a large and wonderful family. She was an active member of the LDS Church and responded energetically to numerous church callings. She was a respected and successful businesswoman and well-known for her many community service activities. In 1973, she was the coordinator for the Five County Senior Citizens' Programs for southern Utah counties. She led the way in obtaining state funds for the "Meals on Wheels" program and established senior citizen centers in St. George, Enterprise and Hurricane. Leah loved to travel. She traveled extensively in the United States, Europe and Asia. Her other great loves were horseback riding, dancing and continuing education, all of which contributed to a long and robust life.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sterling Court for their loving and compassionate care of our mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
