John Bevalere Cox
St. George, UT
John B. Cox, beloved husband and father, passed away on February 14, 2014 at his home in St. George, Utah after a long illness. He was born on December 7, 1926 in St. George, Utah to Wilford Charles Cox and Elizabeth Leany Cox. He was the youngest of five children. On August 26, 1948, he and Beth Atkin, also of St. George, were married in the St. George Temple. Together they raised six awesome children. They are awesome parents.
Throughout life he was noted for his kindness and politeness. He was in a few stage plays; the most notable as Elwood P. Dowd in 'Harvey'. Drawing, sculpting, reading and writing were some of his hobbies. After serving in the Navy during WWII he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture at the University of Oregon. During his career he participated in some important projects, including a cyclotron at the University of California, Davis.
Always an active member of the LDS church, he took his faith seriously and held several important callings and served many years as a worker in the Arizona and St. George Temples. He remained active and devoted to the end. Never, even once, was he heard to use foul language or the Lord's name in vain.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Beth, of St. George; and by his children: Kenneth of Biloxi, Mississippi; Paul of Hinckley, Utah; Jolene of Orem, Utah; Janet of Prescott Valley, Arizona; Glen of Cedar City, Utah and Cynthia of Ft. Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by his brother, Everard of Hampstead, Maryland and by thirty grandchildren and perhaps forty great-grandchildren.
He was a good example to us all and will be missed by his family and friends. Many thanks to Michelle, Brian and Mindy and the hospice team who helped with patience and kindness.
