Floyd Duane Blake

St. George

Floyd Duane Blake, 82, passed away at home on April 4, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 25, 1931 to Milo and Mary Alena Fowler Blake in St. George, Utah. He married his sweetheart, Darlene Turner on November 26, 1949 in the St. George LDS Temple.

Duane was a great example of integrity, honesty and hard work. He always treated his wonderful wife, Darlene with the upmost love and respect. During his life he was a truck driver, worked road construction, and for the majority of his adult life, was in the ranching and farming business. He ran cattle on the Arizona Strip and on his beloved Blake Family Ranch on Kolob Mountain. This ranch on Kolob is a very special place for the Blake family.

He loved to garden and share his harvest with neighbors, family and friends. Duane served for 22 years on the Arizona Strip Grazing Advisory Board, 15 of those he spent as chairman. He was honored by the "National Day of the American Cowboy" in 2006. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings, including serving in two bishoprics.

Duane will not only be missed and mourned but will forever be in the hearts of those that knew and loved him. Although he was a man of few words, when he spoke, his words were full of conviction and wisdom. He had a wonderful sense of humor that brought smiles to many. He loved his family, particularly his little great-grandbabies.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; five children: Stan (Allyson), Larry (Janean), Nancy (Brent) Gubler, Kelly (Deanna) and MaryAnn (Rick) Denos; 19 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Thelma Oswald of NY, Betty Sullivan of St. George, UT and Wanda Lucas of Rio Linda, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Beulah Tobler and Dorothy Bowler Rodoni; infant brother, Stanley Keith; and infant granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. James LDS Ward Chapel, 1095 East St. James Lane, St. George, Utah.
