E. Kay Deuel, age 86, faithful saint, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away quietly in the night at his home in Kanab, Utah on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. He was born and raised in Escalante, Utah to Hulda Wright and Peter Barton Deuel on August 22, 1926. In his youth he was a farmer, rancher and herded sheep. He served with honor in the US Marines in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Kay married C. Sherrie Boles on July 6, 1948 in Elko, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Over the span of his life, he lived in Escalante, Clearfield, SLC, Wendover, Dugway, Tooele, St. George and Kanab.
Kay's passions were genealogy, family, hunting, shooting and tinkering. He worked for the government in civil service until 1979, when he retired.
Kay was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Temple with Sherrie for several years. They also served five church missions after retirement in South Dakota, California, Salt Lake City, New York and the St. George Temple.
Survivors include his wife Sherrie of 64 years; sons Daryl, Dave (Nyleen), and Kim (Allie), 5 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one brother Jay (Phyllis) Deuel. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Osmond, Verge and Barton, his sister Wilma, and his faithful dogs Kraut and Snoopie.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Mosdell Mortuary in Kanab, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 AM. Burial with military honors will be in the St. George Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10:00 AM. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.
