Bill Douglas Melling

Cedar City, Utah

Bill Douglas Melling was born in Cedar City, Utah on September 28th 1957 as the first child to Douglas and Grace Melling. Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in his home on May 28th 2013. Cancer may have taken his body but it was never able to touch his spirit.

Bill graduated from Cedar City High School in 1975 and went on to Southern Utah University where he met and married his sweetheart Laurie Loock Melling. They started their family and he took up the masonry profession which with help and support of Laurie turned into a lifelong career of successfully owning and operating Melling Masonry. Bill's work can be seen in many of the prominent buildings around Cedar City and Southern Utah.

Bill always had a love for the outdoors. He began farming with his father at a young age and began riding bulls and competing in rodeo at the age of 12. This is a passion that he passed onto and vigorously supported his daughters in. He always felt so blessed to have a son to share baseball and hunting with. Being an avid hunter throughout his lifetime led him in creating the second love of his life; his cabin on the Paunsaugunt. Where he spent all of his free time enjoying the wildlife and time with his family.

Bill and Laurie raised their four children Amanda (Ron) Potter, Cassie (Riley) Champneys, Trevor (Heidi) Melling, Sami (Ryan) Hunt in Cedar City and he worked very hard to give them all of the opportunities and support that he could. He carried this love over to all 13 of his grandkids whom affectionately call him "Pa" and will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife Laurie, his children, mother Grace Melling and siblings Walker Melling, Melanie Hirschi, David Melling, Marvin Melling, and was preceded in death by his father Douglas Melling who we know was waiting patiently to see him again.

A special thanks and appreciation for all of those whom cared for him at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Cedar Cancer Clinic. As well as all of his dear friends who have supported him and his family throughout this difficult journey.
