Kaibab Paiute Indian Reservation
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and auntie, Dolores C. Savala, "Dee", age 68, passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at her home on the Kaibab Paiute Indian Reservation. After a valiant fight with breast cancer in 2011, Dee's battle resumed in March 2013. Her strong will to live, her unwavering love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters comforted her to the end. Dolores was born August 27, 1944 in St. George, Utah. She attended Phoenix Indian High School and graduated from the New Mexico School of Nursing. She married Tony Savala in 1965; recently celebrating 48 years of marriage. Dolores and Tony raised two daughters (Sonya Savala, Carmen Bradley) and son (Orlando Benn) in Fredonia, Arizona.
Affectionately known by most as "Aunt Dee", she enjoyed gambling, fireworks, sewing, yard sales, and the holidays especially Halloween. She was constantly on the go, enjoying traveling between her home in Kaibab and the home she shared with her husband Tony in Las Vegas. Her unending support of her "Viejo" and his entrepreneurial spirit was to be admired. Dee was dedicated to the service and welfare of her Native people throughout her career she served as Tribal Chairperson for the Kaibab Paiute Tribe, Council Member, and spent over 25 years promoting health and wellness for her Southern Paiute People.
Dee will be remembered for her contagious smile and entertaining sense of humor.
Dee is survived by her husband Tony Savala: children Sonya Savala, Carmen and Bob Bradley, and Orlando Benn; grandchildren: Colby and Frances Track, Cierra, Shian, Austin and Dakota Bradley, Christopher, Isabella and Simon Benn; siblings Priscilla Gutierrez, Claudina "Hopper" Teller, Gevene Savala and Loretta Martinez; in-laws Carmen Falero, Helen Perez, Virginia Vega, and David "Compa"Savala; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to list. She was preceded in death Isabelle John, Ralph Castro, Gloria Stanfield and Rosetta Benn
The Savala Family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support - in Dee's own words, "Thank you ever so much!"
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Kaibab Paiute Multi-Purpose Building at 2:00 p.m. (AZ Time), followed by a traditional ceremony from dusk to dawn. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab.
