Jolene Weight Obituary
Jolene Ahlstrom Weight

St. George, Utah

Jolene Ahlstrom Weight was born in Elsinore, Utah to Glen Walter Ahlstrom and Mary Elizabeth Porritt on December 28, 1931. She had two sisters and two brothers. She passed away on July 10, 2013. Jolene attended Ogden High School and Utah State University where she met her first husband Vard L Johnsen. They were married on June 8, 1954 and had three children. Jolene went on to obtain a Nursing degree at the University of Texas in Dallas, a BS degree at Weber State University and a Masters degree at Brigham Young University. She met and married her second husband Ted Leon Weight and they were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on July 26, 1983. Ted also had three children from a former marriage and both families immediately merged into one happy family.

Jolene always had a great love for working with the youth. Although she served in the LDS church in several different positions, her favorite was serving as the Stake Young Women's president. She also led tours through the opening of the Oakland California LDS Temple. After her educational degrees she worked as a RN at the McKay Dee Hospital, the University of Utah Hospital, and the Dixie State Hospital. Jolene and Ted served as Ordinance Workers in Salt Lake Temple and later served a mission in the Washington DC Temple Visitor's Center. They also spent many years together enjoying their summers in Yellowstone National Park where Ted worked as a Park Ranger. During those days, it wasn't unusual to see Jolene with Ted chasing bears and bad guys.

Her parents, her brother Gary, and her first husband preceded Jolene in death. She is survived by her husband, Ted Leon Weight; her two sisters, Jean (Floyd) Scott, Glenna (Milt) Page; her brother, Blythe (Anne) Ahlstrom; and her six children: Terry (Lisa) Weight, Kelly (Kristie) Johnsen, Sherry (John) Ramuta, Lori Stevens, Jeannie Miller and Todd (Jocelyn) Weight. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren (including 2 more on the way).

Jolene lived in Utah, Texas, Hawaii and California. She liked to travel, watch the Utah Jazz, BYU sports and enjoyed listening to Book of Mormon tapes or music before going to sleep each night. Most of all she enjoyed being a member of the LDS Church and being with her husband and family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Green Valley LDS Stake Center, 511 South Valley View Drive, St. George, Utah. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Springville Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East, Springville, Utah. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221. For condolences and full obituary and service listings, please visit the website
