Lambert Jensen Obituary

V. Lambert Jensen, age 86, passed away on November 20, 2013 at the Southern Utah Veteran's Home in Ivins, Utah. He was born on March 5, 1927 in Mount Pleasant, Utah to Thomas W. Jensen and Annie Woodbury. He married Betty Lou Heugly on May 14, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they were married for 50 years. Betty preceded Lambert in death on July 30, 2002.

Lambert loved his youth growing up among a large family of eight boys and one girl in the Jensen home in Mount Pleasant. Following in his brothers footsteps, Lambert joined the US Army in July of 1945 and served until October of 1946. After he returned home and married Betty, he began working at the ice cream plant. He and Betty then tried their hand at operating a hamburger and ice cream drive-in with Lambert driving the school bus as a side job. He eventually went back to work at the ice cream plant and then began working for the US Geological Survey as a hydrologist. He also worked a second job for a local mortuary. He retired from the USGS after 24 years of service and in 1989 he and Betty moved to St. George. Lambert was a much loved employee at Metcalf Mortuary and worked there in many capacities until just a few months ago. Lambert was a member of the American Legion Post 90 and served weekly on the Honor Guard for many years.

Lambert married ValRae Chamberlain on May 29, 2004. They have enjoyed and shared their new home having many family dinners and functions there. They also enjoyed traveling and have gone to many destinations over the last few years. Lambert's family meant the world to him and he always recognized their accomplishments and attended many of their important events. Lambert faithfully spent his life in dedicated service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many different positions. The calling he loved most was ward greeter because it allowed him to visit with people. Lambert was a great conversationalist; no one was a stranger to him! He always made a connection with people and has many friends both near and far.

He is survived by his wife, ValRae of St. George; his three children: Ann (Brent) Speirs of Sandy, UT, James Jensen of San Jose, CA and Eric Jensen of Victorville, CA; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; four brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m at the Coral Canyon LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 1950 North Coral Canyon Blvd., Washington, UT. Visitations will be held on Sunday, December 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, and on Monday, December 2, at the chapel, prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221. Please visit our website at www.metcalfmortuary.com for condolences, complete obituary and funeral listings.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for all the generous outpouring of love; with a special thanks to the Southern Utah Veteran's Home in Ivins for the care and love they gave Lambert during his stay with them.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Legion Lester Keate Post 90, P.O. Box 931031, St. George, Utah, 84791.

Val Rae and Lambert's extended family, Currently my wife, Diane and I, are serving a military relations mission at Fort Carson, CO. We will not be able to attend the services. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find that peace that passeth all understanding. Lambert was one of the "good guys". In 1948 we lived on 2850 East in SLC, just 3 houses south of G&G Jensen. Lambert was a young man,I was 5. He was always very kind to me, his nephew. Over the years we kept up that relationship. At the Jensen family reunion several years ago we talked about the great service of his mother, Annie Jensen. Lambert, over the years every time I thought of you, I felt good. I feel a loss today, but feel good thinking of you. I hope to see you again, your nephew, Artie (Arthur Ford, III; oldest son of your only sister, Phyllis.)
