Hurricane, UT

Delbert Ross Covington, age 89, passed away January 10, 2014. He was born December 3, 1924, in Hurricane, Utah, to Isaac Loren and Anna Eagar Covington. He grew up in Hurricane where he attended elementary and high school.

In 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served his country in World War II. He was critically wounded in the invasion of Normandy. After returning home from the war he married his sweetheart, Cleora LeBaron, in the St. George LDS temple. Seven children blessed their union.

In 1964, he and Cleora, along with their growing family, accepted the call to serve an LDS church work mission to Alberta, Canada, and Montana. Delbert supervised the building of beautiful chapels. Through this experience, many life-long friends were made. After returning home from the mission, Delbert resumed his building career.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, farming, and ranching. Above all, he loved his family, Heavenly Father, his fellowmen, and his country. He served them all faithfully and well.

He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Cleora; Children, Marsha (Gary) Wells, Kathy (Rex) Tobler, Kelly (Margene), David (Parlena), Vance (Connie), Lonnie (Sue), and Susan (Brent) Lamoreaux; 35 grandchildren; and 56 great grandchildren; Siblings, Alice May Thompson, and Oral (Hanna). He was preceded in death by: his brothers, Clell, DuRell, and Justin; grandchildren, Hilary Tobler and Brandon Covington.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hurricane 9th ward LDS chapel, 274 S. 100 W., Hurricane, UT. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, prior to the service from 9:00-10:30 a.m., both at the chapel. Interment with military honors will follow the funeral at the Hurricane City Cemetery.

The family would like to express appreciation to Southern Utah Home Health Agency; Katie, Heidi, & Jeremy and also the Southern Utah Veterans Home.
