Charlene Farris Rupp, 83, passed away Sunday morning, April 6, 2014.  Charlene was born Nov. 26, 1930 in Springfield, Ky., to the late Charles and Edna Farris. After graduation from Springfield High School, she attended Eastern Kentucky University to pursue a career in education. Her first teaching position was in New Albany, Ind., in 1953, where she also met husband to be, George Rupp.  They were married Aug. 1, 1954 at Springfield United Methodist Church. They moved to Seymour, Ind., in 1956 and had one daughter, Lisa, in 1958. They moved to the northeast side of Indianapolis (Lawrence) in 1960. Charlene returned to her teaching career in 1964 in the Warren Township Schools, where she taught for 25 years. She and George retired to Corydon, Ind., in 1989, where Charlene pursued her love of gardening and especially herbs, by becoming an active member in the Kentuckiana Herb Society. She and George were also active members in the Corydon United Methodist Church and Historical Society. They returned to the Indianapolis area in 1998 moving to Carmel, where Charlene continued to pursue her passion for herbs with the Central Indiana Herb Society. She also started the Red Hat WOW group. Her joy of books and support of literacy was shared with her involvement in the Carmel Clay Library Foundation Guild and the "Between the Covers" book club. Charlene and George are also members of the Carmel United Methodist Church. Charlene is survived by husband George; daughter Lisa Rupp; sister Phyllis Pallada (Ted), and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather Wednesday, April 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel, 900 N. Rangeline Rd., Carmel, Ind. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at the mortuary followed by burial at Carmel Cemetery.
