O’Bryan, Mary Gertrude (Hughes)  
Mary Gertrude Hughes O'Bryan, 93, of Armory Hill in Springfield, passed away at 9:50 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the University of Louisville Hospital. A native of Marion County, she was born on July 22, 1922, to the late Elmer and Imelda Brady Hughes. She was a member of the St. Dominic Catholic Church and a homemaker. Preceding her in death was her husband, James Foster O'Bryan on May 8, 1988, one sister, Nora Hardinger and six brothers, Chub, Pat, Joe, Rob, Gregory and Thomas Hughes. Survivors include a daughter, Gail Jarboe (Gary) of Springfield, three sons, Roger O'Bryan (Cosma) of Louisville, Tony O'Bryan (Lucy) of Bardstown and Paul O'Bryan (Mary Jane) of Springfield, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Catherine Childers of Lebanon and Delana Cocanougher (Sonny) of Perryville, a brother, Lambert "Nub" Hughes of Lebanon and a close friend, Brenda Elliott of Lebanon Junction. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, pastor of St. Rose Catholic Church, officiating. Burial was in the St. Rose Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Bryan Cocanougher, Jim O'Bryan, Stevie Hughes, Dave Hughes, Elmer Hughes and Joey Cocanougher. Rev. Kevin McGrath held a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Osbourne, Bro. Louis Bertrand Peter - Springfield  
Brother Louis Bertrand Peter Osbourne, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the Nazareth Home in Louisville. Bro. Peter served the Church and the Dominican Order for more than 60 years, assisting in parishes, particularly with youth, and helping to care for senior friars at Dominican communities in Washington, D.C., New York City, Somerset, Ohio and St. Rose Priory in Springfield. Bro. Peter was in his 62nd year of religious profession. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Cecilia (Spalding) Osbourne, and by a sister, Mary Alice Graves. He is survived by his brothers Sidney (Ruth Ann) and William (Terri) Osbourne and sisters Frances (Henry) Peterson and Jo Ann (Charles Owen) Smith, as well as by three generations of nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, at St. Rose Priory Church. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Spalding, Catherine (Boswell) - Springfield  
Catherine Boswell Spalding, 98, formerly of Lebanon Hill of Springfield, died at 9:38 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Masonic Home in Louisville. Born Feb. 22, 1918, in Marion County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Debo Farris and Mary Belle Lanham Boswell, her husband, Thomas Hayes Spalding, June 24, 1982, four brothers, Tom, Dallas, Bricken and Ralph Boswell; four sisters, Bertha Funk, Rena Holderman, Verna Wilson Broughton and Edna Boswell; and a grandson, Matthew Spalding Mabrey. She is survived by five daughters, Peggy (Allen) Noel and Dottie (Marshall) Mullins all of Springfield, Joyce (Owen) Vessels of Georgetown, Texas, Mary Spalding of Danville and Phyllis O'Daniel of Louisville. Twelve grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Ben Brown officiating. Burial will be in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery. Pallbearers are Joe Vessels, Kenneth, Christopher and Phillip Noel and Paul and Ben O'Daniel. Contributions are suggested to St. Dominic. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wheatley, Joseph Edward "Buck" - Springfield  
Joseph Edward "Buck" Wheatley, 93, of Bardstown Road in Springfield, passed away at 10:10 a.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. A native of Washington County, he was born on March 27, 1923, to the late John Thomas and Nancy Filiatreau Wheatley. He was a lifelong member of the St. Rose Catholic Church. A graduate of St. Agnes Elementary School and Fredericktown High School, he was a lifelong farmer, a Kentucky Colonel, served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines, served on the Board of Directors of the Washington County Cooperative Tobacco Warehouse and was an employee of the former New Home Tobacco Warehouse. For 26 years he drove a school bus for the Washington County School System. Preceding him in death was his wife of 54 years, Mary Gertrude Thomas Wheatley on Feb. 9, 2001, a grandson, Aaron Neel on Aug. 12, 2011, an infant granddaughter, Melissa Carol Neel in 1970, a grand-son-in-law, Adam Hughes in 2005 and six sisters, Sarah Wheatley, Anna Laura Osbourne, Josephine Fowler, Martina Newton, Caroline Britt and Catherine Farnsley. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Neel (Joe) of Bardstown and Lorrie Wheatley (Bill) of Springfield, three grandchildren, Pat Neel (Susan) of Springfield, Emily Cheek (Jason) of Bardstown and Sara Mattingly Hughes of Cox?s Creek, six great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and seven step-great-great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, at the St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, the church pastor, officiating. Rev. Kevin McGrath held a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Carey & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery where the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be nieces. Casket bearers will be nephews, Eddie Newton, Lonnie Fowler, Dennis Stapp, Damion Osbourne, Ricky Thomas and Steve Thomas. Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Yankey, Lora Mae (Gibson) - Harrodsburg  
Lora Mae Gibson Yankey, 94, of Harrodsburg, widow of James D. Yankey died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the Willows, Harrodsburg. She was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Mercer County to Clarence and Mary Elizabeth Divine Gibson. She is survived by three daughters, JoEtta Yankey Wickliffe of Harrodsburg, Brenda Yankey Noel of Mackville and Patricia Yankey (Eugene) Devine of Perryville. Six grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg. Burial will follow at the Peter Cemetery, Mackville. Memorials are suggested to the Antioch United Methodist Church, c/o Peggy Powell, 365 Shortline Road, Perryville, KY 40468.

Young, Stella Ophelia (Johnson) - Springfield  
Stella Ophelia Johnson Young, 91, of Mackville Hill in Springfield, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016, at her residence. Born May 20, 1925, in Green County, she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Mary Beatrice Scott Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Joseph Young; three brothers, Sam and Broadus Johnson and Paul Parker; two sisters, Betty Grundy and Maudie Elmore and two grandsons, Thomas Young and Joseph Levon Young. She a domestic housekeeper for many years and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She is survived by three daughters, Myrtle J. Lyons of Lexington, Mary Young of Munfordville and Stella (Bruce) Yantis of Springfield, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral mass was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P. officiating. Burial was in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darnell, David and Allen Young, Tyrone Lyons, Craig Bridgewater and Willie Ellery. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
