Betty Jane Thompson Haydon age 79, formerly of Walnut St. Springfield, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon. She had been a resident at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary for the last 2.5 years.
Born Aug. 13, 1934 in Washington County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Peters and Dorothy Raybourne Thompson: a son, Benedict Simms Haydon, March 11, 2012; and a brother, Dr. William Reid Thompson.
She was a former teacher at Mackville Elementary and St. Dominic Schools, a piano teacher for many years, a homemaker, and a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Haydon, a resident at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary at Nerinx; three sons, George Lloyd (Marlene) Haydon IV of Louisville, Eric (Christina) Haydon of Cincinnati, Ohio and Julio (Cindy) Burgos of Loretto; four daughters, Elizabeth Jane (Larry) Martin of Carmel, Indiana, Dorothy (Bruce) Smith of Shelbyville, Jacqueline (Scott) Surface of LaGrange and Vicky (Dwayne) Mackin of Lebanon; a brother, Dr. Pete (Brenda) Thompson of Richmond; a sister, Jackie (Binford) Sutton of Lawrenceburg; and twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral mass was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Springfield with Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were George Haydon, Dwayne Mackin, Larry and Jack Martin, Scott and Cody Surface, Zeke and Zach Haydon.
Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
