Mrs. Dorothy Edelen Medley, age 101, of Springfield, passed away at 1:41 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at the Sansbury Care Center at St. Catharine.
A native of Washington County, she was born on May 29, 1912 to the late J. Thomas Edelen and Stella Hill Edelen. She was a lifetime member of the St. Rose Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Catharine High School. Preceding her in death was her husband, William Marvin Medley; two grandchildren, Francis Edwin Medley and Saundra Medley Alcorn; one brother, Thomas Edelen and three sisters, Martha Jane Fey, Mary Belle Wheatley and Sister Mary Clare Edelen.
Dorothy is survived by three sons, Bill Medley (Norma), James Medley (Betty) of Springfield and Dave Medley (Linda) of Mt. Washington; one daughter, Pat Moore (Frank, deceased) of Louisville; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; four brothers, Julian, Fred and Larry Edelen all of Springfield and Robert Edelen of Louisville and two sisters, Borgie Paulsen of Stamford, Conn. and Mary Jo Hamilton of Bardstown.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday (today), Sept. 18 at the St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P., the church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be great grandsons, Richard, Dale, Ryan and Kyle Medley, Ray Smith and Alex McMahan.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Sansbury Care Center for their excellent care of Dorothy while she was a resident at their facility.
A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Carey & Son Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
