Ella Mae Mays Thompson, age 88, of Maplewood Avenue, Springfield,, passed away at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Bardstown.
A native of Marion County, she was born on Oct. 1, 1924 to the late James and Addie Hart Mays.
She was a member of the Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church, a 1942 graduate of Rosenwald High School in Lebanon, a former employee of the Springfield Redrying Company and a homemaker.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Stanley Thompson on June 2, 1986 and a brother, Joseph Mayes.
Survivors include a son, Joe Thompson and his wife, Arthella of Danville; two daughters, Janice Yocum and her husband, Charles and Carolyn Thompson of Springfield; adopted daughter, Michelle Meaux of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrice Simpson and her husband, George of Lebanon.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Y. Michelle Washington, the church pastor, officiating.
Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Keion Wright, D.T. Yocum, Qualyn Yocum, Markus Reardon, William Ford, Anthony Thompson, Josh McKay and Calvin McKay.
Casket bearers were Andrew Yocum, Ray Thompson, Dee Thompson, Sedrick Reardon, Lamar Reardon and Michael Yocum.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
