Flora B. Foster

Flora B. Foster, age 90, passed away at 8:15 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at The Grandview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Campbellsville.
Flora Beulah Settle was born to Charlie Lloyd and Anna Leona Hines Settle on June 23,1923 in Washington County, Kentucky. She was a member of the Maud Community outside of Springfield, KY and attended the Maud School. During her early years, Flora B. was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and was a 1941 graduate of Springfield High School.
On July 26, 1941 Flora B. married William Darrol Foster. The two were active longtime residents of Willisburg, KY. She was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, regularly contributed to Bible study groups and Vacation Bible Schools, and was a Women's Missionary Union (WMU) leader. Flora held WMU leadership positions at both local and state levels and was recognized for her commitment to the organization and its mission. Flora B. was also a member of the Willisburg Homemakers Club for over 65 years. As a Willisburg Homemaker she worked with women in her association on cookbook projects, in-home meetings, artwork and local charity events. In addition, she loved music and played piano until the end of her life. She resided in the same home on Lawrenceburg Road in Willisburg for over 60 years, and upon her husband Darrol's passing in 1993, devoted her time to caring for the elderly and sick in her community. Besides her family, Flora's church work, Bible study and devotion to helping others was her primary interest.
In 2006, Flora B. moved to Campbellsville, KY where she was a member of the Faith Class of Campbellsville Baptist Church. She became a resident of the Grandview Nursing facility in 2011. While at Grandview she enjoyed the activities, the caring staff, and her cards and visitors-especially Gene Taylor of Bardstown, a childhood friend and classmate of over 80 years.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Darrol Foster on April 7, 1993; a sister, Sueanna Murdock on Jan. 19, 1999; and two brothers, Joe Settle on Oct. 16, 1985 and Charlie P. Settle on Dec. 14, 2003.
Survivors include, a son, Joe Darrol Foster and his wife, Margaret Wayne of Campbellsville; a daughter, Flora Anne Foster of Lebanon and three grandchildren, Joseph D.W. Foster of Washington, D.C., Lisa Renee Foster and her partner, Travis Searle of Louisville and Lauran Rose Knott of Lebanon.
Funeral services were held at 1p.m., Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. J.W. Hatfield, pastor of the Willisburg Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Serving as pallbearers were Rob Cloyd, Ernest Reed Goff, Eddie Sims, Roger Cheser, Doug Sims and David Hardin.
