Frances Justine Russell, age 86, of Springfield, died at 11:21 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center where she had been a resident for the last four years.
Born May 29, 1926 in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late John Leonard and Margaret Ann Abell Thomas, and was also preceded in death by her husband, William A. Russell, May 13, 1997; a son, William Thomas 'Willie' Russell, Oct. 3, 1987; a daughter, Martha Lavinia Russell, April 6, 2011; a brother, Leon Thomas; and three sisters, Pauline Spalding, Eunice Ann Thomas and Mary Ola Rawlings.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
She is survived by three sons, Joe David (Mary) Russell, James Roger (Darice) Russell and Jerry (Denise) Russell, all of Springfield; nine daughters, Margaret Ann (Cliff) McCool and Mary Frances (Bob) Matthews, all of Louisville, Sharon (Joe) Wheatley, Clara (Mike) Simms, Wanda Sue (Donald Ray) Carney, Nancy Jo (Kenny) Hardin and Jennifer Lynn (Mark) Edelen, all of Springfield, Karen Marie Russell of Lexington and Vivian Ann (Gary) Foster of Bardstown; three brothers, Clifton and Cyril Thomas, both of Lebanon and L.A. Thomas of Florida; 32 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Springfield with Rev. Ben Brown officiating.ÊBurial was in the church cemetery.
ÊVisitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home where a prayer service was held at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jason McCool, Brent Youngblood, Robert Wheatley, Daniel Simms, Brandon Carney, Stan Hardin, Joe Ben Russell, Rich Buckler, Aaron Russell, Justin Foster, Wesley Russell and Tony Edelen.
