Johnnie Boone Parker

Johnnie Boone Askew Parker, 91, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at her home in Newman.
She was born Oct. 21, 1922 in Springfield, Ky. to the late Dr. Hilary Johnson Boone and Marie Barber Boone. Her siblings, Hilary J. Boone Jr. and Mary LaRue Boone Hayden, preceded her in death. She attended parochial schools in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1942. She attended St. Catharine College, and after graduation, she moved to Lexington, Ky. to work for Signal Corp. A few years later, she moved to Atlanta, Ga. and worked at Delta Airlines. She met and later married James Barton Askew. They had two daughters, Mary Barber Askew and Eloise Askew. Jimmy Askew died Oct. 14, 1965 from a heart attack.
In 1970, she met and married a kind and gentle man from Mobile Ala., Bernard John Parker. They were devoted to one another for 43 years of marriage. Faith, family and friends were top priorities in her life. She was one of the original members of St. George Catholic Church. Her daughters and sons-in-laws blessed her with five grandchildren who she loved dearly.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard J. Parker; two daughters, Mary Barber Pickett (Terry), of San Francisco, Calif. and Eloise Reynolds (David) of Newnan; grandchildren, Jonathan Pickett, Barton Pickett, Garnet Reynolds (Leigh), John Reynolds, Jean Reynolds; great-grandchildren, David Reynolds and Whit Reynolds.
The funeral mass was Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at St. George Catholic Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial park.
