William H. "Bill" Beard

William H. Bill Beard, 94, passed away on Dec. 1, 2012 in Lexington, Ky.
He was retired from the U. S. Army where he was a war hero and served in the Invasion of North Africa, the Invasion of Normandy on Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge and Korean War. He was a Shriner, a Mason and a Methodist.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Louise Beard.
Survivors include his daughter Linda Louise Dahn; three grandchildren, Melanie Caplin, Hilary Sykes and William Bickel III; three great-grand children, Scarlet and Samuel Caplin and Helen Sykes; his brother, Raymond Beard; and special friend, Mary Ellen Casler.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Dec. 3, 2012 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Memorial Gardens, Phenix City, Alabama. (
