Mrs. Lucy Russell Harmon, age 89, of Springfield, passed away at 6:40 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013 at her home.

A native of Washington County, she was born on March 18, 1924 to the late Richard and Almeda Holderman Russell. She was a member of the Mackville Christian Church, a graduate of Mackville High School, Campbellsville College and Eastern Kentucky University, a homemaker and a retired schoolteacher having taught for 42 years. Mrs. Harmon started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Battle, where she taught for two years. The remaining years were at the Mackville School where she taught the fourth grade. On Aug. 22, 1947 in Perryville, Ky. she was united in marriage to Curtis "Joe" Harmon. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Russell on April 7, 1996.
Survivors include her son, Joe Norris Harmon and his wife, Lois of Springfield; two granddaughters, Jeanna Jo Janes and her husband, Brian of Noblesville, Ind. and Jaime Morrison and her husband, Jeff of Raleigh, N.C.; two step grandsons, Michael Horn and Kevin Horn both of Harrodsburg; five great grandchildren, Emmalee Morrison, Colton Janes, Annabel Morrison, Clayton Janes and Jordon Morrison; two step great grandchildren, Morgan and Gracie Horn and a sister-in-law, Ethel Mae Russell of Springfield.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Jesse Burns, minister of the Springfield Christian Church, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Robert E. Jones, a former minister.
Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were William Martin Russell and Leon Yaste.
Casket bearers were Michael Horn, Kevin Horn, Russell Reynolds, Paul Reynolds, Felix Reynolds and Bobby Brady.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
