Betty Jane Borders Howard, 78, of Springfield, passed away at Bardstown Health and Rehab Center with her family by her side on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, after losing her battle with cancer.
She was born on Dec.12, 1938, in Washington County to the late Albertus and Alberta Ballard Borders.
She was a member of the St. Dominic Catholic Church, an employee of the former Jane & Linda Sportswear in Lebanon for over 20 years and retired from Heaven Hill Distilleries in 2000. She traveled the U.S. extensively after her retirement. She loved her family unconditionally.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Howard, Jr.; her three sons, Jerry Medley (Mary) of Mt. Washington, Craig Medley (Kathy) of Springfield and Ken Medley (Debi) of Owensboro and two step children, Paul Howard III (Myra) and Brad Howard (Jennifer) of Lebanon. Grandma Betty is survived by nine much loved grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Dixie Smith of Bardstown and two brothers, Jay "Bodo" Borders of Clarkson and David Borders of Bardstown, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 27, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Culpepper Elliott, officiating.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Bardstown.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Leslie Rowland, Jessica Kendall, Holly Medley, Heather Burns, LeAnne Shouse, Kristen Terrell and Amber Medley.
Casket bearers were Ryan Medley, Kyle Medley, Mike Canchola, Brian Borders, Parker Borders and Jim Young.
A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Carey & Son Funeral Home, which was in charge of arrangements.
