Carolyn Strange Edelen, 75, of Fredericktown, passed away at 11:33 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
A native of Washington County, she was born on Jan. 20, 1942, to the late Hyatt A. and Ollie Mae Croake Strange.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a graduate of Fredericktown High School, St. Catharine College and Nazareth College. She was a retired schoolteacher and principal having taught at Fredericktown Elementary School, Washington County High School, Bardstown City Schools and St. Catherine School in New Haven.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Joseph Leroy Edelen on Jan. 5, 2001, and two brothers, Joe Robert Strange on Nov. 7, 1997 and Marion Strange on May 22, 2013.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Renee O'Bryan (Jason) of Bardstown and Shannon Greene (Kenny) of Springfield; four grandchildren, Alex, Anna K., Davis and Joe Charles O'Bryan; three sisters, Linda Nally of Fredericktown, Lucy Smith (Francis) and Suzanne Mattingly (Eugene) of Bardstown; three brothers, Jerome Strange, Larry Strange (Frances Lee) and Kendrick Strange (Mary) all of Bardstown; two sisters-in-law, Bette Strange of Louisville and Bernadine Strange of Bardstown and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Hardesty, the church pastor, officiating.
Burial was in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Philip Mattingly, Ricky Spalding, Jude Nally, David C. Nally, Jack Breunig and Curtis Hamilton.
A prayer service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Carey & Son Funeral Home, which was in charge of arrangements.
