Donald Lee Carpenter, age 84, of Shortline Road, Springfield, passed away at 12:25 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.
A native of Washington County, he was born on Nov. 3, 1927 to the late William Best 'W.B.' Sr. and Mary Young Carpenter.
He was a member of New Beginnings Community Church where he served as a deacon, a retired farmer and a retired employee of the General Electric Company of Louisville.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Nina Barnes Carpenter on Oct. 15, 2007; three sisters, Etta Mae Bottoms, Edith Gray and Isaleen Sparrow; and five brothers, Wallace, W.B. Jr. and Reid Carpenter, Duard and James Webb.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Mae Roehrig (Rick) of Louisville, Townya Carpenter (Gene Staples) and Donna Osbourne (Michael) of Springfield; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19 at New Beginnings Community Church with Rev. George Hourigan, a former pastor, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Stacy Wilson, the church pastor.
He was carried from the church in an antique wagon to his burial site at the Beech Grove Cemetery by a team of mules owned and driven by Joey McDonald.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bradley Lewis, Joey McDonald, Dave and Mary Kessler, Mike and Cathy Fenwick, Godbey Dean and Betsy Roney, Billy Ray and Rosalie Carrico, Mark and Dana Roney, Joe Elder and Todd Elder.
Casket bearers were Jeffrey Brady Jr., Bradley Osbourne, Ben Osbourne, Lance Russell, Joe Campbell, II and Joey Campbell, III.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
