Edward Earl Graves, age 79, of Jimtown Road, Springfield, passed away at 11:35 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at the Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center.
A native of Washington County, he was born on Oct. 27, 1933 to the late M.C. and Mary Grace Thompson Graves.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a farmer, operated a lawn care service and was a former employee of the Farmers Supply Company.
Preceding him in death were a son, Marvin David Graves on Sept. 29, 1979; a daughter, Mary Jeanette Graves on Feb. 13, 2006; a sister, Lucy Anderson; and four brothers, Samuel, Clyde, Rufus and Parker Graves.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Young Graves; four sons, Eddie Graves (Betty), John Graves and William Graves, all of Springfield and James Graves (Sandra) of Beaufort, S.C.; four daughters, Wilma Graves, Rita Graves, Catherine Graves and Frances Graves, all of Springfield; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Corine Graves of Shelbyville and Mary Polin of Bardstown.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21 at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Gene Livers, officiating.
Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Wayne Edelen, William Edelen, Robert Thompson, Jimmy Churchill and Richard Yocum.
Casket bearers were Wayne Churchill, Leroy Thompson, David Yocum, Tony Churchill, James Cowherd and David Fogle.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (
