Hazel Bottom Click, 103, of Virginia Avenue, Springfield, passed away at 10:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home.
A native of Mercer County, she was born July 13, 1915, to the late Willie Green and Laura Ann Toms Bottom.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Clarence Click on June 16, 1999, and her son-in-law, William V. "Billy" Waters on June 25, 2017; a brother, Willie D. Bottom of Springfield; two sisters, Beulah Claunch of Harrodsburg and Lottie Gritton of Bloomfield, and several step and half-brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean C. Waters of Springfield and her grandchildren, Melanie Waters of St. Joseph, Illinois, and Vince Waters of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.
Hazel Click was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered with the local Red Cross Blood Drive for 42 years. She worked for many years at the municipal housing project, which she and her husband originally initiated. She lived and worked in many towns and states throughout her younger life, and while living in Illinois during World War II she worked as a riveter in a military defense plant.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Tobe Yankey officiating. Family friend Debbie Reed of Mercer County also spoke at the services.
Burial was on Cemetery Hill.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Darnell Waters, Eddie Bottom, Bill Collins Bottom, Randy Burba and Louis Barber.
Casket bearers were Gilly Simpson, Garland Scrogham, Joe B. Davis, Melvin Settles, John Barber and Phillip Barber.
The family offers special thanks to the loving and caring staff at the Village of Lebanon Assisted Living and Nursing Home facilities.
