James Roy Lucas, age 75, of 1606 Smith Ln., Springfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at Life Care Center of Bardstown where he had been a resident for four months.

Born Oct. 22, 1938 in Marion County, he was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Lucas, Jan. 23, 1946, his mother, Octavia Beatrice Mattingly, July 14, 1990, three brothers, Sonny, May 3, 1999, Harold, June 13, 2007 and Tony Lucas, July 29, 2000 and three sisters, Margaret Ann Lucas, Feb. 20, 1944, Venita Delgado, Feb. 20, 1984 and Mary Ellen Mattingly, June 25, 2010.
He had worked at Happy Hollow Distillery (Makers Mark), was a milk hauler, had worked at Washington County Hardware and retired from General Electric Co. where he had worked in Buildings 4 and 6. He had played the guitar for many years and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a heart recipient in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Althaire Smith Lucas, a son, Donnie Lucas of Louisville, a daughter, Sherri Osbourne, a sister, Frances Goldman of Mt. Washington, three grandchildren, Stephen, Mary Elizabeth and James Francis (Frankie) Osbourne and four great grandchildren, Skyler, Lucas, Kylee and Christian Osbourne.
Funeral mass was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Thomas Hebert Smith, Stephen and Frankie Osbourne, Wayne Lucas, Francis Hutchins and Scott Barlow. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Roby, Howard, Ricky and Nicholas Smith, Irvin Mattingly and Eddie Blanford.
