John Calvin Carey, 83, of Mackville, passed away at 11:15 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A native of Washington County, he was born on Oct. 24, 1934, to the late John William and Zula Devine Carey.
He attended Battle Baptist Church for many years and was a retired farmer.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Opal Helen Wohner Carey on March 23, 2014; five sisters, Laura Royalty, Stella Beavers, Susie Mattingly, Ruby McRay and Christine Carey, and five brothers, George Evan, Irvin, William A., Clarence and James Carey.
Survivors include a son, James Calvin Carey (Ellen) of Mackville; two daughters, Debra Sparrow and Mary Carey, both of Springfield; six grandchildren, Joseph Matthew Sparrow, Jordan Irvin Sparrow, Ashley Christina Carey, James Tyler Carey, Casey Mae See and Ricky Allen Sparrow, Jr.; six great grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Carey (Judy) of Cardwell.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Terry McIlvoy officiating. Rev. John McDaniel assisted him.
Burial was in the Battle Cemetery.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Casey Mae See, Ashley Christina Carey and Billy Carey.
Casket bearers were James Tyler Carey, Jordan Irvin Sparrow, Joseph Matthew Sparrow, Gilbert Carey, Larry Haydon and Mason See.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
