Margaret Lee "Peggy" Ballard Newton, 61, of Cox's Creek, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

She was born Oct. 21, 1952 in Lebanon, and of the Catholic faith. She was a registered nurse and was most recently employed at St. Catherine College as an assistant professor. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.E. and Nora Belle Ballard; brother, Stanley Ballard of Loretto; and parents-in-law, Sam and Thelma Newton.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ruben Newton of Cox's Creek; son, Francis R. (Cathy) Newton Jr.; daughter, Amy L. Newton; three grandchildren, Jonathan Newton, Courtney Craig, and Camille Goodman; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Craig, Barrett Craig, and Kayelyn Newton; eight brothers, Wayne (Beverly) Ballard of Rineyville, Alan (Yvonne) Ballard of Forsyth, Georgia, Kurtis (Jan) Ballard of Culvertown, Richard Ballard of Louisville, Robert Ballard of Lebanon, Scott Ballard, Brian Ballard both of Loretto, and Stan Ballard of Bardstown; five sisters, Kathy Ballard of Leitchfield, Gail (David) Taylor of Balltown Janet (Larry) Cecil of Dant Station, Ann (Ken) Kilkelly of Balltown, and Susan (Bill) Hamilton of Bardstown; also surviving are the many family members of the late Sam and Thelma Newton of Holy Cross; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service was Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at St. Gregory Cemetery with Rev. Paul Eve officiating.
