Martha (Carney) Cheser (1922 - 2018)

Martha Carney Cheser, 95, of Florence, Kentucky, formerly of the Mooresville community of Washington County, passed away at 4:24 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.
A native of Washington County, she was born on Nov. 19, 1922, to the late William Henry "Willie" and Mary Lee Offutt Carney.
She was a member of Bardstown Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was active in various churches as a pianist, organist, Sunday school teacher and mission's leader.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Thurman Donald Cheser on Aug. 24, 2016, and a son, Donald Bruce Cheser on Feb. 16, 2015.
Survivors include a son, David Wayne Cheser (Teresa) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; a daughter, Janis Cheser Phillips of Franklin; a daughter-in-law, Fran Cheser of Union, Kentucky; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Martha always was involved in church music as a pianist and organist, even until the age of 88.
She was a faithful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy in life. Her loves were Bible reading, music, outdoor activities such as swimming and shuffleboard, going to the ocean, taking cruises, traveling overseas to Europe and Israel and photography. She gained much joy living in Florida for many years during the winter months. She also enjoyed being in the DAR and was always interested in American history.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she always took much pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Even at 95 years of age, at Colonial Gardens residential home she entertained all with her ability to play the piano, with or without music. She had a witty sense of humor for all to enjoy.
All who knew her will remember her for her kind and gracious spirit.
She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 12, at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Phillips, officiating.
Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were David Wayne Cheser, Jeffrey Cheser, Andrew Rasmussen, Alex Krauss, Scott Richards, Will Henry Richards, Wyatt Richards and Rev. Jonathan Phillips.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
