Mike Haydon, husband, father, son, brother, public servant, friend to all, passed away suddenly Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at his home. Born June 1, 1950 Mike was a lifelong resident of Springfield in Washington County. He attended St. Dominic Elementary School, Washington County High School and graduated from Western Kentucky University. He served in the Kentucky National Guard and US Army. He was a member of St. Dominic Parish, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club, and numerous county and state boards and organizations.
Mike was recognized across Kentucky for his years of public service at both the state and local level. At the time of his death Mike served as chief of staff to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear. Even though he was a proud Democrat, his dedication to the people of the Commonwealth transcended party lines. His true professional mission was the betterment of the people he served. His contributions touched the lives of every Kentuckian.
He had a deep love for the people of the Commonwealth and particularly for his native Washington County. As deep as his love for Kentucky, those who were fortunate enough to know Mike, know that his greatest pride and true love was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Jones Haydon; three children, Blair, Kate and Ben, all of Lexington; parents, CH and Frances Haydon; seven brothers and sisters, Charlie (Mary) Haydon, Joe Pat (Nell) Haydon, Mary Ann (Steve) Hale, Nancy (David) Carney, Betty Carol (Louis) Barber, all of Springfield, and Hugh (Kim) Haydon, and Laura Haydon, of Louisville; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and every friend he ever met.

Funeral Mass was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Culpepper Elliott, Rev. Mark Hamilton, Rev. Kevin McGrath, Deacon Joe Dant and Deacon Gus Cooper officiating.ÊBurial was in Cemetery Hill.
ÊPallbearers were Mike Grigsby, Teddy Boone, Robbie and Chuck Polin, Charles 'Whitey' Simpson, Mike Elliott, John Simms and Jody Haydon.Ê Honorary Pallbearers were Laurie Smith, Kathy Elliott, Bob Whitaker, John Bowling, Robert Adams, Kelly Hamilton, Dan and Lee Jones, Gene Kelly, David Carney, Steve Hale, Louis Barber and Frank Clemons.
Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
