Rita Ann Greenwell Edelen, 86, of Springfield, died at 1 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, at Sansbury Care Center at St. Catharine where she had been a resident for eight years.
Born March 17, 1931, in Marion County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel and Beatrice Ball Greenwell; her husband, Fred Edelen, May 14, 2016; two brothers, Bernard and Radford Greenwell, and a sister, Pauletta Taylor.
She was a special education teacher for the Washington County School System for 27 years and was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, Steve Edelen of Louisville; Dave (Terri) Edelen and Perry (Marsha) Edelen all of Danville and Mark (Jenny) Edelen of Springfield; two daughters, Faye Edelen of Lexington and Mary Lou Edelen of Louisville. seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral mass was conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiating. Burial was in St. Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kyle, Nicholas, Daniel, Lucas, Billy and Tony Edelen, David Chapman and Kevin Lloyd.
Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
