Robert Kelly Christerson, 94, of Springfield, passed away at 8:23 a.m., Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home in Lebanon.
He was born in the Texas community of Washington County on May 10, 1924, to the late Garnett Phillip and Mattie Goode Christerson.
He was a member of the River of Life Church, an army veteran of World War II and a former member of the Springfield Lions Club. Kelly enjoyed farming and started his first public work with the Washington County Co-Op Tobacco Warehouse. Then he began his banking career in 1955 with the First and Peoples Bank where he worked until 1967. Then in 1967 he became the Business Manager for Campbellsville College, a position he held until 1972 when he returned to Springfield to take a position with the Springfield State Bank where he worked until his retirement in 1996.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Alberta Jones Christerson May 10, 2012; a son, Marcus Allen Christerson June 30, 1994; a daughter, Sandra Higginbotham Aug. 21, 2017, and a brother, George Christerson July 29, 1992.
Survivors include a son, Garnett Christerson (Jeanette) of Missoula, Montana; a daughter-in-law, Linda Christerson of Louisville; a son-in-law, Larry Higginbotham of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, Derinda Osbourne (Todd), Jennifer Russell (Lee) and Melissa Christerson all of Springfield, Patricia Isaacs (David) of Cox's Creek, Amy Basbagill (Tim) of Louisville, Suzan Truitt (Josh) of Lolo, Montana, Victoria Price (Matthew) and Philip Christerson (Gina) of Missoula, Montana, John Christerson (Melanie) of Louisville, Brad Higginbotham (Kim) of Lenoir, North Carolina and Shannon Pokrandt of Lenoir, North Carolina; 22 great-grandchildren and two great great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, at River of Life Church with Rev. Troy Shelton, the church pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery where the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Atam Abbi, Johnny Coyle, Betty White, Lora Justice, Janice Bartley and Paula Smith.
Casket bearers will be Larry Higginbotham, John Christerson, Todd Osbourne, Derek Russell, Cameron Mason, Tim Basbagill and Lee Russell.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Tuesday at River of Life Church.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to River of Life Building Fund or Gideon's International.
