Ruby Cross Feltner, 98, of Grundy Avenue in Springfield, passed away at 5:41 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, at the Mayfair Manor in Lexington.
A native of Clinton County, Kentucky, she was born Nov. 23, 1918, to the late Herbert and Gertrude Denton Cross.
She was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church, which she loved very much and attended while health permitted. She was a 1936 graduate of Clinton County High School and a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She had a teaching career of 41 years, which stretched from a one-room school in Clinton County to the Washington County Elementary School. Her first schools were reached on horseback. She loved being a teacher and never stopped learning.
She loved Springfield and her numerous colleagues and friends, especially Sheila Wimsatt and her family for their friendship, being good neighbors and their many acts of kindness they showed her throughout the years.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Cecil G. Feltner, Sr. on April 29, 1987, and three brothers, Martin, Joe and John Cross.
Survivors include a daughter, Sybil Ward (Tommy) of Lexington; two sons, Cecil Feltner, Jr. (Madge) of Garrett, Kentucky, and Philip Lee Feltner (Sandy) of Belmont, California; six grandchildren, Julia W. Myron (Patrick), T. Gerald Ward, David Christopher Ward, Cecil Feltner, III, (Kathryn), Michael Feltner and Shannon Feltner Reeber; 11 great-grandchildren; some great-great grandchildren; a sister, Ermel Burchett of Albany; one brother, Willie Cross (Kaye) of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Cross of Paris and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13, at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Bailey, pastor of the Springfield United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial was in the McWhorter Cemetery in Clinton County, Kentucky.
Serving as pallbearers were T. Gerald Ward, Chris Ward, Rachel Ward, Mark Cross, Lyle Cross and Ryan Poore.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Springfield United Methodist Church.
