Sarah Catherine Leachman, age 97, formerly of W. High St., Springfield, died at 9:55 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 at Sansbury Care Center at St. Catharine.
Born Oct. 18, 1914 in Nelson County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Fowler Edelen; her husband, Joseph Hopper Leachman, Jan. 31, 1983; and a sister, Mildred Devers.
She was a graduate of Nazareth College, a former teacher at St. Catharine Academy, Nazareth College and St. Catharine Junior College, a homemaker and a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
She is survived by five sons, Joe H. (Clara) Leachman Jr. of Bountiful, Utah, Charles Leachman of Bowling Green, Hugh Lee (Joan) Leachman of Campbellsville, William (Linda) Leachman of Danville and Del (Norma) Leachman of Louisville; two daughters, Sada (Gene) Moore of Chocowinity, N. C. and Elizabeth Ann Fowler of Kansas City, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Mass was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiating.Ê Burial was in St. Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Del Jr., Jason, John, Christopher, Charles Jr. and Kevin Leachman and Gene Moore III.
Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
