Shirley Ann Smith Mattingly, 72, of Jimtown Rd., Springfield, died at 4:33 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Born Dec. 7, 1941, in Washington County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edward Smith, May 11, 1972 and Elizabeth Emily Carrico Smith, April 29, 1983, a brother, Johnny Louis Smith, May 15, 1983, and two grandsons, Andrew "Drew" Richardson, Oct. 24, 2005, and Brian Thomas Mattingly, May 16, 2000.
She had worked as an operator at Cowden Mfg. Co., a clerk at Kelly Drug and Cecconi's, all in Springfield and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Louis Mattingly, two sons; Thomas Jeffrey (Patty) Mattingly of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and Chuck Mattingly of Lebanon; two daughters, Laurie Ann (Isaias) Martinez of Reseda, Calif. and Karen Renee (Craig) Bradley of Springfield; six brothers, Edward "Tinker" Smith, Thomas Herbert (Bonnie) Smith, Ronnie (Bonnie) Smith and Howard (Denise) Smith all of Springfield; Charles Owen (Joann) Smith of Lebanon and J.R. Smith of Lexington; six sisters, Althaire Lucas, Minnie Fay Smith, Marilyn Watkins, Linda (Mickey) Blandford, Lousie (Ray) Lanham and Frances Medley all of Springfield; four grandchildren, April Richardson, Derek Mattingly and Aaron and Eric Bradley and seven great grandchildren, Nathan, Bryce, Chase, Kaley and Asher Bradley and Ryan and Caydon Baker.
Funeral mass was conducted at 11a.m. Tuesday, Nov.11, 2014, at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Michael Medley, Nicholas and Brian Smith, Troy Lanham, Eddie Blandford and Kevin Bartley.
Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

My deepest condolences. May you continue to find comfort from family and friends at this time of great sorrow. And may you find comfort in knowing that when God restores Paradise He will undo all causes of suffering(Psalms 37:11).Then our tears of sorrow will become tears of joy.
