Mr. Virgil Woodson Simpson, age 87, of Booker Road, Springfield, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan, 13, 2014 at his home.

A native of Washington County, he was born on Nov. 7, 1926 to the late Hedger and Myrtle Lee Chesser Simpson. He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired farmer.
Survivors include, his wife, Mabel Sagrecy Simpson; a sister, Ruby Russell and her husband, Rev. George Russell of Pontiac, Ill. and a brother, Rev. Julian Simpson and his wife, Christine of Lexington.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Cal Adams, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. John McDaniel, former pastor of Temple Baptist Church.
Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Eric Sagrecy, Wesley Russell, Daniel Russell, James Sagrecy, Scott Sagrecy and Larry Hardin.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
