Mr. William E. "Billy" Lewis, age 72, of Bloomfield Road, Springfield, passed away at 3:41 a.m., Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at the University of Louisville Hospital.

A native of Washington County, he was born on June 15, 1941 to the late William Boyd and Dorothy Mae Hooper Lewis. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, an army veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired employee of the General Electric Company of Louisville where he worked for 34 years. Preceding him in death was his wife, Betty Shumate Lewis on Jan. 14, 2012.
Survivors include his daughter, Sonya Ballard and her husband, Rick of Bardstown; a sister, Linda Carpenter and her husband, Johnnie of Springfield and a brother, Clifton Lewis and his wife, Jane of Springfield.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Everett Hood, pastor of the Brush Grove Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Steven Settles, Logan Keeling, Kelley Keeling, Danny Wilson, Gary Cheatham and Ronnie Shaffer.
