Mr. Elvin Elwood Breeding, Sr., age 86, of Lincoln Park Road, Springfield, passed away at 6:25 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at the Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center.

A native of Washington County, he was born on June 10, 1927 to the late Cecil Herbert and Ida Mae Cheatham Breeding. In his youth, Elwood called Battle, Ky. home and often spoke of his memories of living there. He was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church, a proud dairy and tobacco farmer with a great appreciation for his work on the Grundy Farm at Valley Hill, Ky. having been the farm manager for Mr. Hugh Lee Grundy. After retiring from the dairy and tobacco business, Elwood worked as a carpenter and served as a bus driver and custodian for the Washington County School System. His last career was with St. Catharine College. Elwood loved his hometown of Springfield, saw work as an enjoyable hobby and took great pride in his garden, home, yard and extended family. He was a faithful and loving husband. He was gracious and generous to fault and was loved by everyone he met.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Effie Simpson, Lorene Tingle and Beulah Coulter and two brothers, Cecil Breeding and Homer Breeding.
Survivors include, his wife, Elizabeth Keeling Breeding; three sons, Jackie Breeding and his wife, Eva of Bardstown, Elvin Breeding of Bardstown and Michael Breeding of Lexington; a daughter, Pam Miller and her husband, Don of Bardstown; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Waunita McMichael of Willisburg and a brother, Eugene Breeding and his wife, Ruby of Springfield.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Springfield Baptist Church with Rev. Justin Compton, the church pastor, officiating.
Burial was on Cemetery Hill in Springfield.
Serving as pallbearers were Kris Bickett, John Michael Smith, Jonathon Smith, Jackie Breeding, Joe Hamilton and Bob Jewell, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Jessica Smith, Whitney Mattingly, Jennifer Maddox, Allison Dunes, Jenna Smith, and Rachel Smith.
