Jean Hardin Carey, age 73, of Kentucky Avenue, Springfield, passed away at 5:57 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 at the University of Louisville Hospital.

A native of Washington County, she was born on June 12, 1940 to the late Frank A., Sr. and Myrtle Vivian Burkhead Hardin. She was a former employee of the Fruit of the Loom Company.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Tom Carey; a son, Timmy Burkhead; a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Burkhead; two sisters, Lena Mae Milburn and Helen Moore and three brothers, William Martin Hardin, Richard Kenneth Hardin and Frank Hardin, Jr.
Survivors include, two sons, Donald Burkhead (Brenda) of Springfield and Anthony Laymance (Missy) of Campbellsville; three daughters, Jeannie Hale (Steve) and Connie Matherly (Marty) of Springfield and Patty McElvain of Lebanon; thirteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Joe Hardin (Patricia) of Springfield and three sisters, Barbara Byrd of Willisburg, Jewell Hood (Namon) of Springfield and Betty Mattingly (Terry) of Lebanon and a special friend, Connie Colvin of Springfield.
Funeral services were held at 1p.m., Saturday, March 29 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Bishop, pastor of the Open Arms Community Church, officiating.
Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Dawn Dillard, Amanda Loranger, Tina Burkhead, Emily Hale, Allie Malone, Ava Laymance and Jared McElvain.
Casket bearers were Josh Deringer, Christopher Hale, Johnathan Hale, Dillain Thompson, Corey Burkhead and Derek Thompson.
